"London Bridge" is a song performed by American recording artist Fergie for her first studio album The Dutchess (2006). It was written by Fergie, Jamal Jones, Mike Hartnett and Sean Garrett while the production was helmed by Jones under his production name Polow da Don. The song was slated as Fergie's debut single from the album and released for airplay on July 18, 2006. "London Bridge" is a hip hop song with dance characteristics. It contains a compositional samples of "Down To The Nightclub", a song written by Emilio Castillo, Stephen 'Doc' Kupka, and David Garibaldi and performed by Tower of Power. The critical reception of "London Bridge" ranged from positive to negative, with many crticizing the song's sexually suggestive lyrics. Some music critics compared the song to Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" (2004), a single released from her debut studio album Love. Angel. Music. Baby (2005). "London Bridge" was a commercial success domestically and moderately in some international countries. In the United States, it peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and at number four on the Pop Songs chart. "London Bridge" was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and sold more than two million digital units, becoming Fergie's second best selling song in the United States. In Australia and New Zealand, the song peaked at number three and received a gold certification from the Australian Recording Industry Association (RIAA). In Europe, the song peaked within the top ten on several different charts across the continent, including high positions in Finland, Norway, Belgium and France. An accompanying music video was directed by Marc Webb and features Fergie playing around with men in England.
